Metro’s Catherine Hufton welcomes the increase in remote and flexible working brought about by the pandemic. She cites a study by flexible working campaign Flex Appeal which revealed a decline in sick days and people quitting among workers offered hybrid work patterns. A 2021 report from Flex Appeal found that hybrid working opens up roles to a greater pool of people. It also suggested that a 50% increase in the current flexible working rates could potentially lead to a net economic gain of £55bn and the creation of 51,200 new jobs.
