The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has written to Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng to urge the Government to work with the private sector to develop a strategy for reopening the economy after the national lockdown. The CBI has requested details on current plans, including details on what economic activity will be considered high or low-risk, the possibility of a return to tiered restrictions, and the conditions that will need to be met for restrictions to be lifted. The CBI’s director-general Tony Danker says there is “huge appetite among businesses to help the government create and deliver a roadmap out of lockdown that lasts, has national consensus and kick-starts our economic recovery as 2021 unfolds”, and has also requested more details on how officials will lay out “bespoke” reopening plans for the hardest-hit sectors.
