New Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has held a meeting with civil servants to tell them his five priorities to help the UK’s industries recover from the coronavirus crisis. He said he will prioritise “relentless business engagement” and will make clear that “this government backs business”. There will also be a focus on “backing long-term growth and taking advantage of Brexit”, “levelling up” economic growth, encouraging investment and “growing the UK’s competitive advantage”. Additionally, delivering the Government’s net-zero target, doubling investment in research and development and making the UK a “science superpower” were stressed by Mr Kwarteng.
