Hospitality industry trade body UKHospitality has warned that a second national COVID-19 lockdown, without financial support in place, would put 900,000 jobs in the sector at risk. CEO Kate Nicholls said the resulting debt from another extended closure would create a “difficult spiral” for firms trying to recover. Her comments were reinforced by an open letter from 175 publicans, who have told the Prime Minister that curfew reportedly being considered, or stronger measures such as a national lockdown, would devastate a sector that is “already on its knees.”
