HMRC has provided figures showing that the number of furloughed workers fell by more than 400,000 between mid-January and the end of February. Some 4.65m jobs were covered by furlough at the end of last month, down from the latest peak of 5.06m in mid-January. Among accommodation and food services firms there was a fall of 140,000 workers to 1.15m. Meanwhile, the ONS found 69% of hospitality companies reporting below normal levels of turnover in late February and early March – an improvement from early January's figure of just over 80%.
