More than 1m small firms ‘overlooked’ for support

Mike Cherry, the national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, has warned that 1m small businesses and sole traders who have been “overlooked” for support during the pandemic are still in need of assistance. A poll of more than 1,000 business owners found that one in five have received no financial support from the Government, and separate research suggests half of firms have not been able to access cash grants, and just one in 20 were able to secure discretionary support from their local authority. The FSB has called on the Chancellor to extend cash support and business rates relief, and for the threshold at which businesses start paying rates to be permanently increased.
