Quarter of firms fear pandemic will force their closure

New research suggests that a quarter of UK businesses do not think they will be able to survive until the end of the year. A survey by logistics company One World Express of more than 750 decision makers also found that 64% believe COVID-19 made 2020 the hardest year on record for British businesses. Atul Bhakta, chief executive of One World Express, said: "While some people may be pleased with the Government's roadmap for relaxing the lockdown rules, mid-April will be deemed much too late a reopening date for non-essential businesses. They need to begin selling goods as soon as possible, and given the success of the vaccine roll-out, many will have been hoping for a date in March so they can protect their livelihoods and get back to something like business as usual."
