The Prime Minister has stressed the importance of the coronavirus vaccine rollout at the first meeting of a new business council set up to help inform the Government’s economic response to the pandemic. Boris Johnson told leaders from 30 of the UK’s biggest companies that efficient delivery of vaccines represents the best opportunity for an economic recovery from the crisis, and that the Government will go on to support job creation, invest in infrastructure, and launch a “green industrial revolution” to help the country “build back better”. Chancellor Rishi Sunak echoed his remarks, stressing that the vaccine programme is currently the Government’s most important economic policy, and that it will help build a stable platform for economic recovery later in 2021.
